西インド・不思議なカイラサ寺院

West India, the wonderful Kailasa temple

インドの旅。日本人の定番ルートはタジマハル、ガンジス川そしてブッダ・ガヤ。最近は南インド料理が盛んになったけど、南インドを旅する日本人はさほど増えない。西はもっと乏しい。

添付の動画。西インドのエロラ寺院郡の中の一つ、カイラサ寺院。８世紀に建設されたとされる。でも、もっと前に建てられたという説も。この寺の特徴と言えば世界では唯一、上から下へ、そして内側から外へ、一枚岩を削って造られたということ。実は、前から奥へ掘られのは常識。よって、この寺院は７つの不思議にカウントされるべきという指摘もある。

この寺院の大きさは半端ではない。奥行き164×幅109×高さ98フィート。なんと、40万トンの岩が掘り出され、例え100年をかけて建設されたと言っても、一日に約10トンが掘り出されたことになる。今の機械化の時代でも決して容易ではない。本当に人間の手で作られたものか疑う学者も。

とても繊細に掘られているため、爆破などの利用も不可能。数年前にこの寺をみた時に驚いた。どのようにしてこんなものを設計し、建設を執行したのだろうかと。だって、一度失敗したら直しようがない。それを世代から世代へとタスキーを繋げながら、完成させたのだ。

今の僕ら、パソコンを使っていて、何度でも作り直せるのに、不具合だらけのプログラムを作っている。今夜は夢の中にあの時代のプロジェクト・マネージャや技術者が現れば、彼らの成功の秘訣を聞きたい。恐らく『真心』と言われるのでは！

Normally Japanese people only visit places like Tajmahal, the Ganges and Buddha gaya. Rest of India is overlooked.

Hence, here is an intro of a wonderful temple from western India. If I happen to meet the project managers or engineers then, I wish to ask them about the way they executed such constuction project with such a great success, given that there was no chance to err.

These days, although we use computers, and the fact that we can do a lot of back and forth, still we end up producing defective programs. I think they will say "Its about sincerity. And nothing else."
